Southern Arapaho Children's Moccasins / 1880

A pair of children's moccasins constructed from native tanned hide, with hard soles. The uppers are stained with yellow ochre and beaded around the edge using sinew-sewn green and red "white heart" seed beads. The vamps feature central white lanes with segmented triangles, and the tongues are surrounded by turquoise and dark blue. The name "Arapaho" is written on the right sole. A welt strip separates the uppers from the soles.
