Sioux Parfleche Envelope / 1875

An envelope constructed from buffalo rawhide, pigmented with natural earth pigments. The obverse side features a geometric "X" motif with a perimeter of red, surrounded by green. An hourglass motif is divided by the flap, with quadrisected triangles of yellow and green. The reverse side is largely undecorated, except for a rectangle trimmed in red with a hide thong. 

8.5" tall and 5.5" wide
