Cheyenne Moccasins / 1880

A pair of hard-soled moccasins constructed from native-tanned hide and stained on the uppers with yellow ochre. The vamps feature a bar motif comprising dark blue, sky blue, and red sinew-sewn seed beads. The perimeter features opposing triangles on a white field. Accompanying the moccasins is a tag from the 19th century collector, Amos Gottschall. The tag reads, "CHEYENNE-ARAPAHO NEAR NORTH CANADIAN RIVER, OKLA."
