Sioux Pipe Bag / 1890

A supple bag constructed from native-tanned hide. The mouth is decorated along the opening with fringe and sinew-sewn seed beads. The central panel consists of a classic box-and-border design and an hourglass motif on the reverse. Red, blue, green, and yellow bars decorate the side seam. The obverse contains a quill-decorated drop, hoisting tin cones with deer hair. Beneath the bead panel are quilled rawhide slats, terminated by long supple fringe. The fringe has had restoration. Accompanying the bag is a custom table mount.
